DNA Research
Freshwater sponges have unique ecological and genetic characteristics that differentiate them from marine sponges, so it is important to understand their diversity and evolutionary process through genome research.
Our laboratory develops and applies various protocols for efficient extraction of high-quality DNA from freshwater sponges. Using techniques such as CTAB extraction, we effectively isolate genomic DNA from freshwater sponges, and analyze genetic characteristics through PCR amplification and base sequence analysis.
Research on freshwater sponge DNA has important implications in many aspects, including elucidating species diversity and distribution, identifying unique genetic characteristics, suggesting the possibility of discovering new physiologically active compounds, and understanding their role as indicator organisms for changes in aquatic environments. Our institute is contributing to elucidating their evolutionary relationships and environmental adaptation mechanisms through molecular phylogenetic studies of freshwater sponges.
