To fully harness the potential of spicules, researchers have developed and applied advanced techniques such as impregnating active ingredients into the spicule’s interior or coating their surface. These technologies aim to maximize the stability of active ingredients and dramatically enhance skin delivery efficiency. Thanks to these innovative impregnation and coating methods, spicules have evolved beyond mere skin penetration enhancers to become multifunctional cosmetic ingredients and sophisticated drug delivery systems that reliably transport actives and precisely target desired areas.
