Spicule vs Acupuncture
Both spicules and acupuncture have in common the fact that they physically stimulate the skin and have a skin-improving effect.
Both methods can induce sensations by activating the mechanoreceptor and noceceptor in the skin, and have the potential to induce subtle trauma to the skin, thus promoting the natural healing response. However, the spikul and the acupuncture point clearly differ in the depth and specificity of the irritation. Although the spikul mainly acts on the epidermis of the skin, the acupuncture point penetrates into the deeper dermis, even the subcutaneous tissue, and targets specific acupuncture points along the meridians. While the spikul provides relatively wide and shallow stimuli throughout the treatment site, the acupuncture point has the characteristic of applying intensive stimuli to specific points selected considering the neurological connection according to the oriental medical principles.
Spicule
Definition
Spicules are natural micro-needles extracted from sponges, and are ingredients that provide physical stimulation to the skin to promote exfoliation and skin regeneration.
Principle
When fine needle-shaped spicules touch the skin, they create micro-wounds to induce skin regeneration and help exfoliation.
Areas of Use
It is mainly used in spicule cosmetics or spicule-ing procedures, and you can expect effects such as improving skin texture, reducing pores, and increasing elasticity.
Characteristics
It is a natural ingredient, and may cause a tingling sensation when it touches the skin.
Acupuncture
Definition
Acupuncture is a traditional Korean medicine treatment that stimulates acupuncture points on the human body to regulate the flow of qi and blood and treat diseases.
Principle
Acupuncture points are passages through which qi and blood flow, and stimulating them with needles helps to activate the circulation of qi and blood and balance the body.
Areas of Use
It is used to treat various diseases such as pain relief, indigestion, and insomnia.
Characteristics
It must be performed by a medical professional and must be performed safely in a sanitary environment.
Similarities and differences can be seen in the neurological pathways and reactions involved in skin improvement. Both methods can stimulate local release of neuropeptides and growth factors involved in skin regeneration and recovery, but acupuncture can affect the systemic pathways through meridional stimulation, which can positively affect the organ system and the overall balance, which indirectly provide beneficial effects on the skin. On the other hand, the spikule focuses on directly stimulating the skin, inducing a local healing response, and promoting the absorption of topical applied products through the microaisle. In addition, the neurological effects of acupuncture can go beyond the local skin response and be involved in the central nervous system control and pain pathway.
